CUH MBB: Chaminade Takes Down Tahiti 116-68 in Asia-Pacific Tournament

Swords top century mark in opener

LAIE, HI – It would be difficult for the opener for first-year Chaminade Men's Basketball Coach Eric Bovaird to have gone better than tonight's matchup.

The Swords took on Tahiti at the Cannon Activities Center on the campus of BYU-Hawaii tonight and came away with a 116-68 victory over Tahiti.  Tahiti is the largest island in French Polynesia which is located in the southern Pacific Ocean.

Eight Swords scored in double-figures and all ten CUH players who saw action played at least ten minutes.  Chaminade led 67-32 at the break.

Coach Bovaird was happy with the effort. ”It was good to get the kinks out and it was good to face a different opponent.  Being able to face someone else, before we go against NCAA Division II and Division I teams was something we were glad to do.”

CUH doesn't have long to enjoy the win as the Swords head to Hilo, HI to compete in the 2011 GNAC/PacWest Challenge.  The Swords face Western Oregon on Friday night (Nov. 11th) at 5 PM HT.  Chaminade will face St. Martin's on Saturday night at 5 PM as well.  Chaminade won the 2010 GNAC/PacWest Challenge, which was hosted by St. Martin's.  The Swords will host the tournament in 2013 in McCabe Gym.
