Game # 2 – This game was much better for the Lady Swords, who found a way to win and came away with a lopsided victory over BYUH. Winning 10runs to 2, this was the first time the Lady Swords were able to beat a team into submission by winning a game by way of the NCAA mercy rule.. (when a team leads by more than 8 runs after 5 innings or more have been played)
Speaking of firsts, Freshman
Kyree Naiwi, hit her first collegiate homerun tonight. It came in the bottom of 5
th inning. She worked the count a bit, finally got the pitch she wanted and she ended up smacking the ball deep over the left center field fence for the Lady Swords 5
th run of the game. This was a solo blast for Naiwi and this was the only RBI of the inning.
BYU-H managed a bit of a comeback in the top of the 6th inning when they got 4 hits, and 2 runs. Thus forcing the Lady Swords to step up in the last two at bats and pull away from the Seasiders.
Kelly Korras came into relief for the Swords late in 6
th inning needing an out. She came in with the bases loaded and 2 outs .. and she ended up doing what's done all year along, get batters out, she struck her out for her 9
th strike out on the year.
The Lady Swords came out bats a blazin' in the bottom of the 6th … and scored 5 runs on 4 hits and earned themselves their 4th win of the season. With the spilt today, CUH has a record of 4-6 overall and BYU-H has a record of 3-8 on the season.
