Box Score 2 WAIPIO, HI –The Swords lost two conference contests to the 'Siders of BYU-Hawaii by scores of 2-0 and 8-0 (6 innings) today at Central Oahu Regional Park. The games were originally scheduled for Laie, HI, but were moved due to poor field conditions on the North Shore.
CUH lost a low-scoring battle in game one, losing 2-0 to the conference rivals from Laie. Freshman pitcher
Brett Aspel (Redondo Beach, CA, Redondo Union) took the loss in the pitcher's duel.
BYU-Hawaii got the offense going in game two and won by eight run rule in game two, 8-0 in six innings.
The Swords were led offensively by junior
Rayna Strom-Okimoto (Aiea, HI/Aiea High) who had a double on the afternoon, while
Shannan Hokama (Torrance, CA/South) had two doubles in defeat.
Freshman pitcher
Kaitlyn Watanabe (Kula, HI/Baldwin High) got the loss for CUH in game two, pitching four innings for Chaminade.
Coach
Kent Yamaguchi commented on the defeats: “We have to find a way to beat BYU-Hawaii. They made plays, but our bats were quiet today. The last four games, we hit the ball. We didn't have the hitting going today. I told the team we have to forget about today quickly and look forward to playing tomorrow.”
Chaminade is back in action for a doubleheader against Notre Dame de Namur on March 11
th in Waipio, HI (CORP). First pitch is set for 12:00 PM HT.
The Swords move to 5-7, 4-2 in PWC with the losses, while BYU-Hawaii moves to 7-5 overall, 4-4 in the PWC.
