CUH Softball: Silverswords Drop Two to Academy of Art (8-0 (6), 8-5)

Hokama and Strom-Okimoto have four hits in game two

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WAIPIO, HI –The Swords fell in two conference contests with the Urban Knights of Academy of Art, losing 8-0 in game one in six innings and fell in game two 8-5 today at Central Oahu Regional Park. 
 
Academy of Art struck early in game one.  The Urban Knights scored a run in the top of the first, but left three runners on base in the opening inning.  ArtU added three more runs in the third and two more runs in the fourth, to earn a 6-0 lead. The Urban Knights tacked on two more runs in the sixth for the 8-0 win.  Chaminade struggled offensively in game one, with only two hits.   
 
Freshman pitcher Brett Aspel (Redondo Beach, CA, Redondo Union) took the loss for Chaminade, pitching three innings in the 8-0 defeat.  The Urban Knights Ashley Lokey was a thorn in Chaminade's side in the first game, with three steals and three hits in game one. 
 
The Chaminade bats woke up early in game two as both freshman Shannan Hokama (Torrance, CA/South) and junior Rayna Strom-Okimoto (Aiea, HI/Aiea) had singles and scored in the first inning.  The Swords led Academy of Art 2-0 after 1.  The Swords added two more runs in the third inning to go ahead 4-0 as Kori Berinobis (Kaneohe, HI/Castle) and Kelsey Berinobis (Kaneohe, HI/Castle) each tallied RBI's in the inning. 
 
Academy of Art did not go away, responding with five runs in the bottom of the third to earn a 5-4 lead.  Chaminade immediately answered back in the top of the fourth with and RBI double from Rayna Strom-Okimoto as Shannan Hokama scored on the play to knot the score at 5-5. 
 
The scoring continued in the fifth inning as the Urban Knights tallied three runs to lead 8-5.  Two wild pitches were key in allowing Academy of Art to extend the lead. 
 
Shannan Hokama was 4-4 in game two, with four singles for Chaminade.  Rayna Strom-Okimoto also went 4-4 in game two, with three singles and a double.

Taylor Thurman was impressive for AAU with five hits on the doubleheader.
 
Chaminade is back in action for a doubleheader against Grand Canyon on March 24st in Phoenix, AZ. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM MT. 
 
The Swords move to 6-10, 5-5 in PWC with the losses, while Academy of Art moves to 11-20 overall, 7-9 in the PWC.
