CUH Softball: Swords Shutout GNAC Leader Montana State-Billings, 2-0

Strom-Okimoto leads with two hits, two RBI’s

Box Score TURLOCK, CA –The Swords started off the Tournament of Champions with a bang this morning, knocking off the GNAC conference leader, Montana State Billings by a score of 2-0 in the tournament opener for both teams.  MSU-Billings, who entered the contest riding the winds of an eleven game winning streak were stopped a stiff Silversword defense and timely hitting by the CUH offense.    
 
Coach Yamaguchi commented on the win: “We played beautiful defense behind Brett Aspel.  We turned double plays throughout the game. Elia Lizarraga gave us two hits from the leadoff spot and Ryan Strom-Okimoto played great.  She did it on defense and on offense with some big hits.  The team played well.”
 
Freshman pitcher Brett Aspel (Redondo Beach, CA, Redondo Union) earned the win for Chaminade with a shutout win on five hits in seven innings.
 
Junior shortstop Rayna Strom-Okimoto (Aiea, HI/Aiea) starred for Chaminade, getting two hits, two RBI's and a walk in the 2-0 win.  Freshman Elia Lizarraga (Torrance, CA/Narbonne) had two hits and scored a run in the win. 
 
Chaminade is back in action against St. Martin's this afternoon in Turlock, CA. First pitch is set for 2:15 PM PT. 
 
The Swords move to 9-16, 7-11 in PWC with the wins, while Montana State Billings falls to 20-6.
