CUH Softball: Swords Sweep Dominican (CA) 10-2 (6 inn.) and 11-3 (5 inn.)

Strom-Okimoto leads CUH with five hits

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TURLOCK, CA –The Swords took two games this evening in a doubleheader against the Penguins of Dominican (CA).  Chaminade won 10-2 in six innings in game one, and also won by eight-run rule in game two, 11-3 in five innings.  The conference contests were originally scheduled to be played in Honolulu earlier in March, but were rained out.  The doubleheader was fit-in prior to The Tournament of Champions hosted by Cal State Stanislaus.

Coach Yamaguchi commented on the sweep: “We were mentally tough today.  We had a six hour drive prior to our games. Our two freshman pitchers both had complete game wins with good defense behind them.  Rayna Strom-Okimoto, Shannan Hokama and Anuhea Yamaguchi really got the offense going today.  We were able to get two good wins.”

Freshman pitcher Brett Aspel (Redondo Beach, CA, Redondo Union) earned the win for Chaminade in game one, giving up two runs on six hits in the 10-2 win.

Freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Watanabe (Kula, HI/Baldwin) took the win for CUH in game two, giving up eight hits and three runs in five innings.  Junior shortstop Rayna Strom-Okimoto (Aiea, HI/Aiea) led the way with five hits over two games, while senior catcher Anuhea Yamaguchi (Ewa Beach, HI/Campbell) had six RBI's over two contests.

Chaminade is back in action against Montana State-Billings on March 30th in Turlock, CA. First pitch is set for 10:00 AM PT.

The Swords move to 8-16, 7-11 in PWC with the wins, while Dominican (CA) moves to 2-23 overall, 0-12 in the PWC.
