CUH Softball: Swords Win Two Games against NDNU, 5-4 and 4-2

Keyes leads with home run, triple for Chaminade

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WAIPIO, HI –The Swords hot start in conference play continued this evening, defeating the Argonauts at Central Oahu Regional Park, taking two games from NDNU, 5-4 and 4-2. 
 
CUH got off to a slow start, giving up two runs on four errors in the first inning of game one.  Chaminade looked to respond, getting a hit from Rayna Strom-Okimoto (Aiea, HI/Aiea High) in the bottom of the first, but CUH left two runners on base and NDNU remained ahead 2-0.
 
Chaminade scored in the bottom of the second via a single by freshman Elia Lizarraga (Torrance, CA/Narbonne).  Following that first run, Letisha Vaba (Stockton, CA/San Joaquin JC) doubled down the 3rd base line to score two more runs and the Swords took the 3-2 lead headed to the third. 
 
The Swords tacked on another run in the third inning to lead 4-2 heading into the fourth. After an Argonauts run in the fifth inning, Chaminade freshman Aja Keyes (Kaneohe, HI/Lutheran) responded with a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth for a 5-3 Silversword lead. 
 
Notre Dame de Namur scored one run in the seventh, but CUH held on for the 5-4 win.  The Swords had nine hits in the victory.
 
Freshman pitcher Brett Aspel (Redondo Beach, CA, Redondo Union) earned the win for CUH, allowing 6 hits and 4 runs.
 
Chaminade scored three runs in the top of the first in game two, as Aja Keyes had a three RBI triple in the top of the first for CUH. The Argos responded with two runs in the second before Keyes struck again, scoring a run in the fourth to make the game 4-2 CUH. The Silverswords held on for the 4-2 win. 
 
Freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Watanabe (Kula, HI/Baldwin High) got the win for CUH in game two, going the distance and giving up 7 hits.
 
Robyn Araujo led the way with three hits over two games for Argonauts.    
 
Chaminade is back in action for a doubleheader against BYU-Hawaii on March 10th in Laie, HI.  First pitch is set for 12:00 PM HT. 
 
The Swords move to 5-5, 4-0 in PWC with the sweep, while Notre Dame de Namur moves to 12-8 overall, 2-3 in the PWC.
