CUH Softball: Swords Take Down NDNU 6-4 at Tournament of Champions

Swords use big third inning to take down Argos

Box Score TURLOCK, CA –The Swords continue to hit, beating NDNU 6-4 in a Sunday afternoon contest at The Tournament of Champions. 
 
Both teams tallied a run in the first inning and the game was tied 1-1 until the bottom of the third.  Chaminade scored five runs in the bottom of the inning on five hits, including a two-RBI double by Kori Berinobis (Kaneohe, HI/Castle) as CUH took a 6-1 lead.  NDNU added three runs in the top of the fifth, but it wasn't enough as Chaminade held on for the 6-4 win. 
 
Freshman Kaitlyn Watanabe (Kula, HI/Badwin) earned the win for Chaminade, going all seven innings in the victory.  Freshman Aja Keyes (Kaneohe, HI/Lutheran) went 2-2 on the contest. 
 
Eight players had at least one hit for the Silverswords. Chaminade had eleven hits while the Argos had nine hits on the contest. 
 
Coach Yamaguchi commented on the game: “Kaitlyn Watanabe went the distance and we have a lot of players hitting.  We have no time to rest, as we play Billings right away. ”
 
Chaminade is back in action now against MSU-Billings in their final contest in Turlock, CA at The Tournament of Champions hosted by Cal State Stanislaus. First pitch is set for 2:30 PM PT today.  The contest is the championship game of Bronze bracket play.  CUH defeated the Yellowjackets 2-0 earlier in the tournament.
 
The Swords move to 12-18, 7-11 PWC with the win, while NDNU falls to 15-19.
