CUH Softball: Swords Fall at Hawaii Pacific 7-1 and 6-1

Lizarraga and Strom-Okimoto lead CUH with three hits each

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KANEOHE, HI – Chaminade dropped two games by scores of 7-1 and 6-1 in a doubleheader against the Sea Warriors of Hawaii Pacific this afternoon at Howard Okita Field.

HPU got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first inning and then added five runs in the third to lead 7-0 thru three innings.  A triple by Silversword junior shortstop Rayna Strom-Okimoto (Aiea, HI/Aiea) continued her fantastic junior year and helped Chaminade score their only run of the contest.  Aja Keyes (Kaneohe, HI/Lutheran) drove Strom-Okimoto on a ground out as the Swords scored one run in the sixth inning.  That run was the end of the scoring in game one and HPU won the game 7-1.

Strom-Okimoto and freshman Elia Lizarraga (Torrance, CA/Narbonne) each had two hits in game one for CUH.  Chaminade had seven total hits, while the Sea Warriors had eleven hits in the first contest.  The Silverswords left seven runners on base.

Freshman Brett Aspel (Redondo Beach, CA/Redondo Union) took the game one loss for the Swords, giving up seven runs on eleven hits in seven innings.

The Sea Warriors also won game two, scoring one run in the first, three runs in the third and two runs in the fourth to earn the win.  Chaminade had their chances offensively, leaving two runners on base in the first, third and fourth innings. Senior Dawn Dela Cruz (Honolulu, HI/Moanalua) led CUH in game two with two hits, including a double and a run scored.

Freshman Kaitlyn Watanabe (Kula, HI/Baldwin) took the loss for CUH in the second contest, giving up six runs (three earned) on ten hits.

Coach Kent Yamaguchi commented on the losses: “A sweep is a sweep, but we didn't play poorly. Credit HPU, they are a good team and they had a few more hits than us in both games.  I told the team, they (HPU) bunched up their hits and made timely plays and our hits were scattered.”

Chaminade is back in PacWest conference action on April 15th against Hawaii Pacific in Waipio, HI at CORP.  First pitch is set for 12:00 PM HT.  It is senior day for Silversword seniors Anuhea Yamaguchi and Dawn Dela Cruz.

The Swords fall to to 14-25, 8-18 PWC, while Hawaii-Pacific improves to 27-17, 19-9 PWC with the sweep.
