CUH Softball: Swords Earn Split in Doubleheader with HPU, Winning Game Two 6-0

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WAIPIO, HI – Chaminade split two games with HPU losing 7-1 in game one and coming back and winning 6-0 in game two in a doubleheader against the Sea Warriors of Hawaii Pacific this afternoon at Central Oahu Regional Park. 
 
A very competitive first game saw HPU get on the board with a solo homerun by Nicole Morrow in the top of the fourth inning and then added two unearned runs in the fifth inning to lead 3-0 thru five innings. 
 
Chaminade threatened in the sixth with three singles by Aja Keyes (Kaneohe, HI/Lutheran), Kori Berinobis (Kaneohe, HI/Castle) and Anuhea Yamaguchi (Ewa Beach, HI/Campbell) loaded the bases for CUH. HPU got out of the jam with no Sword runs. The Sea Warriors tacked on two runs in the seventh and won the game 7-1.  Junior shortstop Rayna Strom-Okimoto (Aiea, HI/Aiea) drove in Letisha Vaba (Stockton, CA/San Joaquin) for the lone CUH run in the seventh. Kori Berinobis led Chaminade in game one, going 3-4 on the contest. 
 
The Swords had eleven total hits, while the Sea Warriors had seven hits in the first contest.  Chaminade left eleven runners on base. 
 
Freshman Brett Aspel (Redondo Beach, CA/Redondo Union) took the game one loss for the Swords, giving up seven runs on seven hits in seven innings. 
 
Kori Berinobis kept her hot-hitting going in game two, getting a single in the top of the first inning and scoring to give CUH an early 1-0 lead. The Swords added another run in the third as freshman Elia Lizarraga (Torrance, CA/Narbonne) singled and scored in the third inning to give CUH a 2-0 lead. 
 
The Swords broke the game open in the fifth inning as Rayna Strom-Okimoto hit a bases loaded double that scored three CUH runs to make the score 5-0 Chaminade. An infield single by Strom-Okimoto in the sixth made the score 6-0 Swords as Kelsey Berinobis (Kaneohe, HI/Castle) scored on the play.  Strom-Okimoto finished with five RBI's over the two contests.  The Silverswords won game two in impressive fashion, winning over the Sea Warriors 6-0.
 
Freshman Kaitlyn Watanabe (Kula, HI/Baldwin) got the win for CUH in the second contest, with the shutout win for Chaminade, allowing six hits. 
 
Chaminade is back in PacWest conference action on April 21st against Hawaii-Hilo in Hilo, HI.  First pitch is set for 12:00 PM HT.
 
The Swords move to 15-26, 9-19 PWC, while Hawaii-Pacific goes to 28-18, 20-10 PWC with the split.
