CUH Softball: Swords Fall to Hawaii Pacific Twice to Conclude Season

Hokama leads Chaminade with two RBI’s

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KANEOHE, HI – The Silverswords dropped the final two games of the season to Hawaii Pacific in a Sunday afternoon road doubleheader against the Sea Warriors. The Silverswords lost game one 6-0 and dropped game two 10-2 in five innings.

Chaminade hit well in game one, as CUH had seven hits but left eight runners on base.  Rayna Strom-Okimoto (Aiea, HI/Aiea) had two hits to lead Chaminade in the first contest. The Swords left two runners on base in the second, fourth and sixth innings. Hawaii Pacific capitalized, scoring a run in the first and second innings, and then exploded for four runs in the fourth to earn the 6-0 win.

Freshman Brett Aspel (Redondo Beach, CA/Redondo Union) took the game one loss for the Swords, giving up six runs on eight hits in six innings.

Game two saw HPU score early, tallying three runs in the bottom of the first inning, but Chaminade responded scoring two runs in the top of the second to make the score 3-2 HPU. 5'1 Freshman Shannan Hokama's (Torrance, CA/South) double was responsible for driving in the two runs to tighten the contest. The Sea Warriors responded with seven runs over the next three innings to win the contest by eight-run rule 10-2 in five innings.

Freshman Kaitlyn Watanabe (Kula, HI/Baldwin) took the loss for CUH in the second contest, giving up ten runs and allowing eleven hits in four innings.

Coach Kent Yamaguchi commented: “Tough today.  We couldn't bunch up hits.  In game one, we missed some opportunities and they took advantage of theirs.  HPU really hit well, especially in game two.”

Chaminade's season is now concluded.
The Swords finish the season at 15-32, 9-25 PWC, while Hawaii Pacific finishes 32-18, 24-10 in the PWC with the sweep.
