Box Score 2 WAIPIO, HI – Chaminade split a doubleheader with PacWest conference foe BYU-Hawaii this afternoon at Central Oahu Regional Park.
CUH got the scoring in the first inning of game one, helped by two BYU-Hawaii errors, scoring three runs to lead 3-0. Silversword senior catcher, Anuhea Yamaguchi (Ewa Beach, CA/Campbell) had a sacrifice fly RBI in the three-run inning.
The Swords added another run in the fourth as singles by junior
Kori Berinobis (Kaneohe, HI/Castle) and senior
Dawn Dela Cruz (Honolulu, HI/Moanalua) helped the CUH cause. Berinobis scored the Silversword run to give CUH a 4-0 lead.
The Swords got the bats going again in the fifth, loading the bases with no outs, helped by singles from
Shannan Hokama (Torrance, CA/South) and junior shortstop
Rayna Strom-Okimoto (Aiea, HI/Aiea). A sacrifice fly by junior
Letisha Vaba (Stockton, CA/San Joaquin Delta) scored Hokama for CUH.
Freshman
Brett Aspel (Redondo Beach, CA/Redondo Union) earned the win for Chaminade, going six innings in the victory. Aspel allowed three runs on four hits. Freshman
Kaitlyn Watanabe (Kula, HI/Baldwin) pitched the seventh inning and earned the save.
Chaminade won game one 5-3, tallying six hits while holding the Seasiders to three hits on the contest.
Game two started with a big first inning for BYU-Hawaii as the 'Siders scored five runs on five hits, including a two-run homerun by Tiffanee Frampton. Frampton added two RBI's in the fourth, driving in two runs with a ground-rule double to right field. The double helped BYU-Hawaii extend the lead to 7-0 in game two. CUH threatened in the sixth, loading the bases, but did not score. The contest finished with a 7-0 'Siders win. Chaminade's
Elia Lizarraga (Torrance, CA/Narbonne) was impressive in game two, going 4-4 in defeat.
Watanabe took the loss for CUH in game two, giving up seven runs on nine hits.
Chaminade is back in PacWest conference action on April 9th against UH-Hilo at Waipio, HI (CORP). First pitch is set for 4:30 PM HT.
The Swords move to 14-21, 8-14 PWC with the split, while BYU-Hawaii moves to 11-14, 6-13 PWC.
