CUH Softball: Swords Fall to UH-Hilo 4-1 and 7-0 in PacWest Play at CORP

Box Score WAIPIO, HI – Chaminade dropped two games in a doubleheader with PacWest conference foe Hawaii-Hilo this evening at Central Oahu Regional Park.
 
Chaminade got on the board first in game one, creating a run in the first inning with no hits.  Silversword junior shortstop Rayna Strom-Okimoto (Aiea, HI/Aiea) scored after junior Letisha Vaba (Stockton, CA/San Joaquin Delta) walked and earned the RBI. The Swords left three runners on base in the inning, but earned the 1-0 lead. A two-run homerun by UHH in the top of the third gave the Vulcans a 2-1 lead. 
 
Chaminade had a rally going in the sixth inning with runners on second and third, but UH-Hilo pitcher Amber Waracka struck out two CUH batters in a row to end the inning with theVulcans still holding a 2-1 lead. Hilo added two insurance runs in the seventh to earn a 4-1 game one victory. 
 
Freshman Brett Aspel (Redondo Beach, CA/Redondo Union) took the game one loss for the Swords, giving up four runs on seven hits in seven innings.  Chaminade tallied three hits while the Vulcans had seven hits in game one. 
 
The Vulcans got out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two and tacked on two runs in the third inning on a Aisha Sueda two-run homerun to lead 3-0 heading to the fourth inning of action.  The Vulcans added another run in the fourth to take a commanding 4-0 lead.  Alena Hookano ripped a three-run homerun in the fifth to make the score 7-0 UHH.  Chaminade, despite four hits, were unable to score against Hilo in game two, falling by a score of 7-0. 
 
Junior Kori Berinobis (Kaneohe, HI/Castle) and senior Dawn Dela Cruz (Honolulu, HI/Moanalua) led CUH with two hits apiece over the two games.  The Silverswords had seven fits over two games (four hits in game two).
Freshman Kaitlyn Watanabe (Kula, HI/Baldwin) took the loss for CUH in game two, giving up seven runs on fourteen hits.
 
Chaminade is back in PacWest conference action on April 14th against Hawaii Pacific in Kaneohe, HI at Howard A. Okita Field.  First pitch is set for 12:00 PM HT. 
 
The Swords fall to to 14-23, 8-16 PWC, while Hawaii-Hilo improves to 20-18, 14-11 PWC with the sweep.
