’Swords Top Saints to Remain Undefeated

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team got 13 kills from Keani Passi and 12 from Kim Spring to complete a successful season-opening Labor Day weekend by downing Saint Martin's 25-10, 25-15, 24-26, 25-21 Monday at McCabe Gym.

The Silverswords improved to 5-0 on the season, matching last year's start. Daisia LaBrie, who earlier in the day was named the Pacific West Conference Co-Freshman of the Week, hammed down eight kills while Cassie Rushlow contributed with six.

Chaminade dominated in nearly every phase of the match including kills (54-34), assists (51-31), service aces (6-3) and digs (60-53). The 'Swords also held the Saints to a paltry .054 attack percentage.

Kyra Davidson and Megan Vernoy led Saint Martin's (0-5) with eight kills each as it fell to CUH for the second time in three days.

Brenda Walker had a match-high 21 digs for the Silverswords while Natashya Enos led the way with 28 assists.

Chaminade opened the match in dominant fashion, allowing only two Saint Martin's attacks to touch the floor, holding them to a negative hitting percentage (-.235) in Set 1. The 'Swords themselves hit .529 in the set.

The 'Swords used an 11-3 run midway through the second set to build a 2-0 lead before the Saints stormed back and took Set 3.

The fourth set remained close throughout until LaBrie hammered down three kills to provide some separation as Chaminade grabbed a 23-19 lead. Passi's kill and a hitting error at aloha ball ended the match.

The Silverswords will hit the road this weekend, traveling to Hilo, Hawai'i for the Hawai'i Challenge. The 'Swords will face Felician College at 10 a.m. on Friday, then Cal State Los Angeles later that afternoon. Chaminade then wraps the Challenge on Saturday against CSULA, which received votes in the AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll.
