Scheive, Dressler Earn PacWest Weekly Honors

IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University men's basketball players Erik Scheive and Grant Dressler have been named the Pacific West Conference Player and Defender of the Week, respectively. The awards reflect the week of Dec. 10 through 16.

The duo helped the Silverswords (ranked 20th in the NABC Coaches Poll, 23rd in the D2SIDA Media Poll) to a 3-0 week.

Scheive, the senior 6-10 forward from Marysville, Calif., had a sensational week, averaging 19.7 points and 10.0 rebounds while shooting at a 53.8 percent (21 of 39) clip. The Yuba College and Marysville High School alumnus posted a career-high 26 points with nine rebounds, two steals and a block in Saturday's win over Holy Names. He also made 9-for-14 field goals with two 3-pointers and made all six shots from the free throw line.

Scheive followed that performance with another scintillating game with a 25-point, 12-rebound performance against Western Washington in the Hoops in Hawai'i D2 Power Invitational on Sunday, the program's first-ever win against the Vikings. He made 10 of his 18 shots from the floor.

He upped his season averages to 15.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game which ranks sixth and fourth, respectively, in the PacWest. Scheive is also fourth in the conference in field goal percentage at 51.7 percent. It is his first career weekly conference honor.

Meanwhile Dressler earned his defender of the week honor by totaling 22 rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Seventeen of the senior's boards were on the defensive end.

The Las Vegas native and Sacramento State transfer also totaled 60 points and 10 assists for good measure.

Dressler had six rebounds (four defensive) and a steal with 17 points against HPU, 10 boards (seven defensive), a block with 21 points and five assists vs. Holy Names, then capped the week with a six-defensive-rebound game and a block with 22 points against Western Washington.

The 6-7 guard was most impactful against the opposition's best offensive player in the 'Swords' man-to-man defense. He held the Sharks' Jonathan Janssen, the PacWest Preseason Player of the Year, to just four points on four shot attempts.

Then against WWU, Dressler drew the defensive assignment against Trevor Jasinsky, the Vikings' leading scorer. Although Jasinsky had 17 points, Dressler held him 4-of-16 shooting from the floor. Western Washington, which entered the game as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's top scoring team which was also sixth nationally, was held to season-lows of 32.4 percent and 66 points, nearly 30 points below its season average.

It's Dressler's second weekly conference honor this season. Fresno Pacific's Spencer Heimerdinger earned freshman of the week honors.

The 'Swords will conclude the D2 Power Invitational on Tuesday before taking the Christmas week off.
