HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's soccer team opened the 2018 season Sunday with a 1-0 exhibition win over Westminster at Saint Louis Field.
Jared Rivera (Union City, Calif./Ohlone College/James Logan HS), who redshirted last season, scored the game's lone goal coming in the 67th minute after receiving a free kick from another redshirt,
Jacob Dougherty (Newark, Calif./Ohlone College/Newark Memorial HS), Rivera's junior college teammate.
Michael Stafford (Honolulu/Iowa Western CC/Kalani), who also redshirted last season, made three saves against the visitors from New Wilmington, Pa., playing all 90 minutes in front of the net.
The exhibition, played in extremely humid conditions, provided a chance for both teams to see their personnel in game conditions against another opponent.
The Silverswords open the season on Saturday, Sept. 1 in a non-conference match against in-city rival Hawai'i Pacific University at Waipio Soccer Complex.
