Takata, Kosins Earn HPH Athlete of Week Honors

Chaminade University soccer players Naomi Takata and Taka Kosins have been named the Hawai'i Pacific Health Silversword Female and Male Athletes of the Week.

Takata, a freshman goalkeeper from Honolulu, played a critical role in the Silverswords' women's 2-2 draw at Hawai'i Pacific University last Thursday. After surrendering two goals, one on a penalty kick, the Pearl City High School graduate kept the Sharks out of the net for the final 60 minutes and made several key stops towards the end of regulation and in overtime to preserve the tie.

The draw was the first time since 2006 that the 'Swords did not suffer a loss to HPU.

On the men's side, Kosins, a junior forward from Tokyo, Japan, had steady play throughout their contest against the Sharks last Thursday. The Kalani High School alumnus has a goal on three shot attempts this season.

Both teams are back in action on Friday when they battle Hawai'i Hilo in non-conference action at Saint Louis Field. The women kickoff at 10 a.m. while the men, making their home debut this season, gets underway at 12:30 p.m. Pacific West Conference action opens Sunday against Notre Dame de Namur at the Saint Louis Field pitch with the women's game starting at 1 p.m. followed by the men at 3:30.
