HONOLULU – Chaminade University Athletics honored the accomplishments of its student-athletes Wednesday at the 16th Annual Athletic Awards Ceremony held on the university campus.
All 12 intercollegiate programs recognized their student-athletes for Most Outstanding, Most Inspirational and Scholar-Athlete. Also honored were the 52 departing seniors among all 12 programs.
Chris Mata of baseball was named the Male Athlete of the Year after finishing with a record-.409 batting average, posting two separate hitting streaks of 12 games or more.
Nikiji Dayse is the first cross country runner to earn the Female Athlete of the Year award after breaking the program's 6-kilometer times in three consecutive races to close out the year while also winning the Hawai'i Hilo Invitational. The Silversword Award, which goes to a student-athlete who exemplifies teamwork, sportsmanship and community service, went to
Chance Wilson from men's golf.
The Ho'omau Comeback Student-Athletes of the Year goes to one male and one female student-athlete who has overcome adversity to excel on the playing surface.
Sofia Desirello of women's soccer was the female honoree while the male awardee is
Michael Oelberger from men's soccer.
The Volunteer Assistant Coach of the Year was awarded to
Arthur King of men's basketball.
In the highly coveted Team GPA Awards, women's soccer earned the Large Roster award (11 or more participants) for posting a 3.69 GPA while men's cross country earned the Small Roster award (10 or less) for the second straight year with a 3.71.
