WAHIAWA, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University men's golf team opened their 2019-20 season Monday in a dual match against Hawai'i Pacific University with several new faces.
Playing in their first match of the non-championship fall season on Monday, the Silverswords shot a 303 to drop a dual match to Hawai'i Pacific University at the par-72, 6,917-yard Leilehua Golf Course.
The Sharks, who already have two fall tournaments under their belts, had a team score of 3-under-par 285.
Junior
Colby Gunderson (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) finished as the match's runner-up by firing a career-low 1-under-par 71 to post Chaminade's top score of the day. Gunderson finished three shots behind medalist Keli'ikalani Kamelamela-Dudoit of HPU.
Gunderson played steady golf throughout the day, recording 13 pars along with three birdies.

Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei), carded a 2-over 74 in a three-way tie for sixth overall. Peterson had a team-high four birdies on the day.
Jeren Nishimoto (Honolulu/Kaiser) shot 80 to finish 10th overall while fellow returnee
Desmond Mello (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i-Manoa/Moanalua HS) had an 83.
Along with Peterson, Chaminade had three others making their collegiate debuts with
Daniel McIntyre (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue) shooting 86 while
Kalani Frazier (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kapolei) and
Gavin Bedoya (Honolulu/Kaiser), both playing as individuals, shot 81 and 88, respectively.
The Silverswords and Sharks meet in another dual match on Monday, Oct. 14, at the Hawai'i Kai Golf Course.
