HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's golf team made their final tune-up before the big fall tournament with a second dual match against Hawai'i Pacific University on Monday at the par-72, 6,500-yard Hawai'i Kai Golf Club.
The Sharks edged the Silverswords by three shots, 306-309.
Jeren Nishimoto (Honolulu/Kaiser) and
Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) each carded 3-over-par 75s to tie for fourth overall, just two shots behind HPU co-medalists Ray Kim and Joseph Pigatti.
Daniel McIntyre (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue) was just three shots off the lead at 4-over while
Kalani Frazier (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kapolei) was at 6-over.
Colby Gunderson (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) shot an 81, followed by
Desmond Mello (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i-Manoa/Moanalua HS) at 84 and
Gavin Bedoya (Honolulu/Kaiser) at 86.
Half of the field's top eight finishers, including tournament winners Kim and Pignatti as well as McIntyre, were playing as individuals, meaning their scores did not count towards the team scores.
The dual match were both teams' final competition before the fall non-championship season's biggest tournament, the Dennis Rose Invitational. It will take place at the Waikoloa Kings' Course on the Big Island from Oct. 28 to 30 and will be the site of the 2020 Pacific West Conference Championships.
