IRVINE, Calif. – For the second consecutive week, Chaminade University right-side hitter
Rachel Reedy (Temple City, Calif./Arcadia) is the Pacific West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week.
The 5-foot-11 junior helped guide the Silverswords to three wins last week, totaling 50 kills for a 4.55 kills per set average while hitting .400. She also had seven blocks, nine digs and four service aces.
Reedy put down a career-high 21 kills in last Thursday's five-set win over Fresno Pacific and added two blocks with her first multi-ace match of the season. She followed with 16- and 13-kills against Dominican and Notre Dame de Namur, respectively.
It's Reedy's third Player of the Week honor this year.
Hawai'i Hilo's Kaila Lizama was the conference Defender of the Week while Point Loma's Grace Hicks was Freshman of the Week.
Chaminade's victories not only extend its winning streak to a school-record 13, but also kept them in first place of the PacWest at 12-0, the conference's lone remaining undefeated. They are also 18-2 overall – the best 20-match start in school history – and are just outside the AVCA Top-25 Poll at No. 28.
The Silverswords' next eight matches are against the upper half of the PacWest and will likely determine their postseason fate. Their opponents have a combined record of 89-38 (.701 winning percentage).
Chaminade host two critical matches this week at McCabe Gymnasium. On Friday, defending champion and PacWest preseason favorite Azusa Pacific (13-3, 7-1 PacWest) visits. The 'Swords and Cougars are not only the top two teams in the standings but in nearly every statistical category including hitting percentage, kills and assists. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
On Saturday at 3 p.m., the 'Swords take on Point Loma (12-6, 8-2 PacWest) which handed Azusa Pacific its first conference loss of the season last Friday.
