IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University guard
Tyler Cartaino (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) on Monday was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week.
The 6-foot-6 redshirt senior guided the Silverswords to two season-opening wins at the PacWest/GNAC Challenge this past weekend, averaging 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting at a 66.7 percent clip in making 18 of 27 shots from the floor. He was named the Challenge's Most Outstanding Player for his performances.
Cartaino put up 21 points, six rebounds and five assists while making 9-of-12 field goals in the 'Swords victory against the University of Alaska. The following evening, he posted 20 points, four boards and three assists while making 9-of-15 field goals in their rout of host Alaska Anchorage.
It is Cartaino's first career conference weekly honor.
Robert McCoy of Concordia Irvine was the Defender of the Week while Hawai'i Pacific's Lachlan Viney was the Freshman of the Week.
The Silverswords have two weeks off before returning to action on Monday, Nov. 25 against Kansas at the Maui Jim Maui Invitational.
