AZUSA, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's soccer team ended their Southern California road trip with a 3-1 loss Saturday to Azusa Pacific at the Cougars Soccer Complex.
Facing a nationally-ranked No. 1 squad for the first time in program history, the Silverswords hung in there against the Cougars, NCAA Division II's final unbeaten and untied team.
Colin Roemer (Cologne, Germany/Barton CC/Wirstschaftgymnasium Westerburg) scored the Silverswords' goal on a penalty kick in the 70th minute. It is the junior's seventh goal this season which is second-most in single-season program history. He needs one to tie the record set by
Sam Galloway in 2012.
Noah Mokulehua (Waimanalo, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kaiser) led Chaminade (6-6 overall, 4-4 Pacific West Conference) with two shots.
Brison Kim (Honolulu/Kalani) and Roemer had one shot each.
Michael Stafford (Honolulu/Iowa Western CC/Kalani HS) made five saves for the 'Swords.
Issac Bawa, Renan Gomes and James Ndubueze each had goals for the Cougars (14-0, 7-0 PacWest) while Nathaniel Linquist made two stops for Azusa Pacific.
The Silverswords return home to the Saint Louis Field pitch next Saturday against Academy of Art. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
