HONOLULU – The Chaminade University softball team began their fall exhibition schedule Friday in the annual Fall Preseason Classic at the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
The Silverswords lost their opener, a 2-0 decision to host Hawai'i, their Division I cousins just down the road from the CUH campus.
Freshman pitcher
Taylor Genera (Norwalk, Calif./Whitney) was impressive in her collegiate debut, getting the start and scattering four hits in four innings while striking out two. The only runs she allowed were in the first inning via a two-run double from Callie Heen. Genera also got Chaminade's only hit, a hard chopper into left field in the fourth.
Madelyn Stockslager (Torrance, Calif./South) pitched the final two scoreless innings for the 'Swords, allowing just two hits.
Including Genera, eight newcomers, seven of whom were freshmen, made their Chaminade debuts.
Kailah Gates-Coyaso (Waianae, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Waianae) played all six innings behind the plate while
Kobe Brown (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) and
Jaeda Cabunoc (Honolulu/Roosevelt) stated the corner infielders spots at first and third, respectively.
Kieran Lopez (Bakersfield, Calif./Frontier) got the nod at centerfield.
Izzy Dino got the win and Jetta Nannen the save for the Rainbow Wahine while Genera took the loss.
The Fall Classic continues Saturday when the Silverswords take on Fullerton College. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.
