Chaminade University men's basketball player
Kendall Small (Lakewood, Calif./Pacific/Mayfair HS) and
Destiny Castro (Talofofo, Guam/Notre Dame HS) of women's basketball have been named the Hawai'i Pacific Health Silversword Male and Female Athletes of the Week for November 25 through December 1.
Â
Small, a senior guard, produced outstanding all-around numbers for the Silverswords during their three games at the Maui Jim Maui Invitational in Lahaina, Maui, last week. The transfer from the University of the Pacific averaged 10.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 2.0 steals against high-level Division I programs. Small had 10 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals against then-No. 4 Kansas last Monday and finished the tournament with 13 points, seven boards, eight assists and two steals against Georgia.

Meanwhile Castro also put up solid numbers against two nationally-ranked foes in the Malika Sports O'ahu Thanksgiving Classic. The senior had 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals against No. 19 Sioux Falls then followed that performance with 16 points, eight rebounds, an assist and steal versus No. 17 Cal State San Marcos. Castro, who is already the program's career steals leader, moved up to fifth in the Pacific West Conference career list. She also has 1,194 career points and is looking to become just the second player in team history to reach 1,200.
