Men’s Golf Plays 36 at NDNU Invite

LIVERMORE, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's golf team opened their 2019 championship season Monday at the Notre Dame de Namur Invitational at the par-72 Poppy Ridge Golf Course.

The Silverswords are in 15th place with a team total of 677 after the first two rounds.

Jeren Nishimoto (Honolulu/Kaiser) struggled in the 18-hole morning round with an 87 but came back in the afternoon's second round and fired a 2-over-par 74, a 13-shot improvement which was tied for the best score differential between rounds. The junior is the team's second round leader at 161.

Patrick Tran (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Capistrano Connections Academy) had the 'Swords' top first round score of 83. An 85 in the second round gives him a 36-hole total of 168.

Desmond Mello (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i-Manoa/Moanalua HS) shot a 172 followed by Colby Gunderson (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) at 176. Curtis Coburn (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach, Calif.), an All-Pacific West Conference selection on the 'Swords' soccer pitch, made his golf debut but was forced to withdraw prior to the second round, leaving the 'Swords with just four golfers in the middle 36 holes.

The NDNU Invitational concludes Tuesday with the 18-hole finale.
