HONOLULU – Chaminade University men's basketball head coach
Eric Bovaird announced Monday the additions of a pair of transfers for the upcoming 2019-20 season.
Akot "Bill" Awet comes to Chaminade from Division I Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The 6-foot-8 forward is a native of Sydney, Australia, totaling 26 games at SIUE with career averages of 1.5 points and 1.6 rebounds during his two-year stint. This past season, Awet appeared in five games for the Cougars with a career-high seven points and two rebounds against Drake on Dec. 17. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Bovaird compares Awet to former Silversword Kuany Kuany (2013-17), the program's third career leading scorer and second-leading rebounder, who last Thursday, signed with the Sydney Kings of the National Basketball League, Australia's top professional league. "(Awet) has great size and length, has the ability to play multiple positions and has the ability to do a variety of things offensively and defensively," Bovaird said. "Bill has a ton of potential and we can't wait to help him get the collegiate success he's capable of getting."
Also joining the 'Swords is another Division I transfer,
Kevin Kremer from the University of Utah, where he spent this past season as a redshirt freshman. During the Chico, Calif., native's senior year at Pleasant Valley High School, Kremer was the named the Cal-Hi 2018 CIF Division III State Player of the Year after averaging 18.5 points and 8.4 boards per game. He helped the Vikings to a 32-2 record and the CIF Division III championship, recording 28 points, 13 rebounds and four assists in the title game against (Riverside) Notre Dame High

School. Kremer will have four years of eligibility remaining.
"Kevin is a dynamic player," Bovaird said. "He can shoot the 3, drive the perimeter and score around the basket. His size and strength will help him be an immediate impact for us. He was a great high school player and will be at this level too."
"We are thrilled to have Kevin and Bill join our team," Bovaird said. "Both are class acts and will fit in with the student-athletes we currently have on the team."
Awet and Kremer are the first members of the 2019-20 recruiting class.
