Cartaino Named PacWest Player of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University men's basketball guard Tyler Cartaino (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) on Monday was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week for contests between Jan. 20 to 26.
 
The redshirt senior totaled 48 points, 15 rebounds, two steals and two assists for the Silverswords last week. He also made 18-of-29 shots from the floor.
 
Cartaino tied his career high of 36 points in the 'Swords' win over Holy Names on Thursday and had a near-perfect shooting night, making 12-of-13 field goals and all 11 free throws. His 92.3 shooting percentage is the highest in the conference this season by a player with over 10 made field goals. He also become the 17th player in team history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
 
On Saturday, he added 12 points, seven rebounds and two assists against Concordia Irvine.
 
Cartaino is the PacWest's leading scorer at 20.6 points per game which ranks 38th nationally in Division II. He is also owns a 54.6 percent shooting percentage which is 63rd in Division II.
 
It is Cartaino's second Player of the Week honor this season, having previously earned the honor on Nov. 11.
 
Michael Bagatourian of Biola earned the conference's Defender of the Week honors while Freshman of the Week went to Fresno Pacific's Sean Nealon-Lino.
