October 13, 2012: Cisneros Enjoys Runner-up Finish at UH Hilo
The 2012 season was a resurgence of sorts for Chaminade University cross country. In September, junior
Emily Ochsner became the first Silversword women's runner in since 1992 to win a race with her victory at the Chaminade Invitational.
On Oct. 13, 2012, it was the men's team whose turn it was to shine.
Competing at the 5-kilometer Hawai'i Hilo Invitational held at the Naniloa Volcanoes Resort Golf Course on the Big Island, sophomore
Jorge Cisneros was locked in a tight duel with BYU-Hawai'i's Spencer DeAvilla for the race's top spot.
At the finish line, DeAvilla managed to edge Cisneros by a few tenths of a second to capture medalist honors. The official times for both runners was recorded at 15 minutes, 48 seconds.
Despite settling for runner-up honors, Cisneros became the first Chaminade men's runner to enjoy a second-place overall finish since
Jeff Lim accomplished the feat in Oct. 2005.
Cisneros would go on to earn All-Pacific West Conference First Team honors after finishing sixth at the PacWest Championships two weeks later.
