Tyler Cartaino on Thursday was named to the 2019-20 Academic All-District
® Team Men's Basketball Team, selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), for performances both on the court and in the classroom.
It is the second consecutive year that Cartaino has been voted to the Division II All-West Region squad. The 6-foot-6 wing, who is currently taking graduate courses in accounting in his final year of athletic eligibility, was on the Academic All-America Second Team last year.
Cartaino, an All-Pacific West Conference First Team selection last year, leads the conference in scoring at 20.8 points per game and is the only player in the PacWest to average over 20 ppg. He is also shooting 55.2 percent from the field which is fourth in the conference.
Along with his on-court success, he also excels in the classroom. Cartaino graduated with his Bachelor's degree in accounting last spring with a cumulative grade point average of 3.83 and currently holds a 3.50 GPA in graduate courses. He has numerous academic accolades including the 2018-19 PacWest Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the team's Scholar-Athlete three straight years.
Cartaino is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America
® ballot which will be announced in mid-March.
The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-American
® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national government structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Divisions II and III Academic All-America
® programs.
