Cartaino, Nueku Earn HPH Athletes of the Week Honors

Chaminade University men's basketball player Tyler Cartaino (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) and women's basketball player Breann Nueku (Honolulu/Clark College/Kamehameha-Kapalama HS) are the Hawai'i Pacific Health Silversword Male and Female Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 27 to Feb. 2.
 
Cartaino averaged 29 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals and a block per game in helping the men's squad win both their games to help them move up to third in the Pacific West Conference standings. The redshirt senior had 32 points against Academy of Art then added 26 at Hawai'i Hilo on Sunday while shooting at an impressive 71.4 percent clip (15-of-25) to help him earn conference player of the week honors for the second straight week. It is his second Hawai'i Pacific Health Athlete of the Week honor this season.
 
Nueku totaled 17 points and six rebounds for the women's team last week. She posted nine points and five boards against Academy of Art then had eight on Sunday at UH Hilo. The redshirt senior guard also went 5-of-6 from the free throw line and is shooting 83.3 percent from the charity stripe this season. Like Cartaino, it is also the second time this season she has earned Hawai'i Pacific Health weekly honors.
