LIVERMORE, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's golf team opened their championship spring season Monday at the Notre Dame de Namur Invitational at the par-72 Poppy Ridge Golf Course.
The Silverswords are 13th after two rounds with a total of 668. The 'Swords' shot a team score of 333 in the 18-hole morning first round then a 335 in the afternoon session.
Jeren Nishimoto (Honolulu/Kaiser) overcame a subpar opening round 81 with a 6-over-par 78 in the afternoon round to post a team-best 159 heading into Tuesday's final round.
Schuyler Peterson (Huntingon Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) is three shots behind Nishimoto after a 162, followed by
Colby Gunderson (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) at 169 and
Kalani Frazier (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kapolei) at 182.
Desmond Mello (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i/Moanalua HS) was forced to withdraw after suffering an injury in the first round.
Cal State East Bay leads the team field with a 585 while the Pioneers' Joey Herrera is the second round individual leader at 5-under 139.
The final round of the NDNU Invitational in Tuesday at 8 a.m. Pacific (5 a.m. Hawai'i).
