’Swords Ho‘okahi: Beau Larsen, Men’s Cross Country

In Hawaiian language, "ho'okahi" translates "to make one."

On Mondays and Thursdays in the next few weeks, GoSwords.com will talk to select returning student-athletes from all 10 Chaminade University sports about how they are learning from home, keeping busy and coping with the current situation.

Featured here is Beau Larsen of men's cross country. The junior from Papillion, Neb., had nine top-team finishes through his first 10 career races during his freshman and sophomore seasons. However injuries hampered the two-time Academic All-Pacific West Conference honoree this past season but still managed three second-place finishes in 2019.

Q (GS.com): What are you missing the most about Chaminade?
A (ES): I would do much of my schoolwork and writing at school using the school's facilities but since I've been stuck (in my dorm room), I've had do use my phone a lot for schoolwork. Other than that, I miss seeing a lot of familiar faces on campus.

Q: Outside of distance learning, what are you doing to pass the time?
A: I've been attending Zoom calls and participating in a lot of work-related activities.

Q: What are you doing to keep your spirits up during the situation?
A: I've been hanging with my roommates and just doing miscellaneous activities with them.

Q: How are you staying connected with you coaches and teammates?
A: I've checked in on a few coaches as well as my coach. Very curious to see what the upcoming season will bring.

Q: Have you learned any new skills or picked up new hobbies that you otherwise would not have if not for the current situation?
A: I've been playing a bit of piano and painting every now and then. Sidewalk chalk has turned out to be a lot of fun.

Q: What is your favorite on-the-field or on-court memory from this past 2019-20 year?
A: Hard to say. I was injured a majority of the season so being given the opportunity to encourage my teammates without running with them was interesting and fun.

Q: What is the first thing you will do after we return to a sense of "normalcy?"
A: I'm going to hit up some of the parks that have been closed this whole time.
