’Swords Ho‘okahi: Garrett Seagren, Men’s Basketball

In Hawaiian language, "ho'okahi" translates "to make one."

On Mondays and Thursdays this summer, GoSwords.com will talk to select returning student-athletes from all 10 Chaminade University sports about how they are learning from home, keeping busy and coping with the current situation.

Featured here is Garrett Seagren of men's basketball. The Oakland, Neb., native has been with the Silverswords for two seasons and spent this past year as a redshirt. The Business Administration major has one of the top grade-point averages on the team, sporting a career GPA of 3.656.

Q (GS.com): What are you missing the most about Chaminade?
A (ES): I'm missing my teammates, all my friends that I've made at Chaminade and around the island. I also miss working out with my teammates and coaches.

9507Q: Outside of distance learning, what are you doing to pass the time?
A: To keep my spirits high, I've been trying to see the positives in all of this. I've also been able to spend a lot more quality time with my family.

Q: How are you staying connected with your coaches and teammates?
A: I've been able to stay in touch through Zoom team meetings, FaceTime with coaches and teammates, and group chats with the guys on the team.

Q: Have you learned any new skills or picked up new hobbies that you otherwise would not have if not for the current situation?
A: I haven't found new hobbies. However I've had more time to do things I enjoy like read, play video games with friends and make occasional Tik Tok videos with my little sister.

Q: What is your favorite on-the-field or on-court memory from this past 2019-20 year?
A: My favorite on-court memory would have to be the ending of the Georgia game on Maui. We hit a deep three to tie the game but sadly, lost on a buzzer beater a few moments later. It was an exciting game and we almost upset a very good team.

Q: What is the first thing you will do after we return to a sense of "normalcy?"
A: The first thing I will do once things return to normal is go out and eat with friends and family. It'll be nice not have to worry about wearing a mask everywhere and be able to see all my friends again.
