Sept. 14, 1985: Volleyball Upsets Nationally-Ranked Volunteers
After finishing their inaugural year of 1984 with a 6-19 record, the Silverswords found early success in just their second season of existence.
The 'Swords won four of their first five matches in 1985 with their only blemish coming against Division I Oregon, which was nationally ranked. Just four days later, on Sept. 14, 1985, Chaminade got another crack against a Division I foe.
Hosting the University of Tennessee, ranked 19th in Division I, at McCabe Gymnasium, the Silverswords got 12 kills from
Sweetie Aiwohi while
Lisa Pestillo dished out 33 assists to give the 'Swords a 15-7, 15-10, 13-15, 15-11 upset over the Volunteers.
It was perhaps the most significant win at the time for the fledgling program, which made even more strides throughout the '85 season.
