IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University defender
Hoku Schatz (Hau'ula, O'ahu, Hawai'i/University of Idaho/Kahuku HS) on Tuesday was named to the All-Pacific West Conference Third Team as selected by the conference coaches.
Schatz started all 13 matches for the Silverswords in 2021, logging 1,147 minutes, the second-most by any Chaminade field player. The sophomore scored her first career goal, the game-winner in a 5-1 win over Holy Names on Nov. 1. One of the defensive anchors, she helped the 'Swords allow just 12 goals in their 13 matches for a school-record 0.92 goals-against average.
Chaminade won a record seven contests, the program's first-ever .500 record in a non-COVID-19 year. The 'Swords also finished sixth in the conference standings with 15 points, its highest finish ever.
It is the second all-conference award earned by Schatz. She was also named to the All-PacWest Hawai'i team this past spring and was the conference's Newcomer of the Year.
Hawai'i Hilo had four named to the PacWest's top awards with Daelenn Tokunaga earning Player of the Year, Viviana Poli the Goalkeeper of the Year, Filipa Graneld the Newcomer of the Year and Gene Okamura the Coach of the Year.
Point Loma's Lauren O'Malley was the Defender of the Year while Concordia's Olivia Ocampo is the Freshman of the Year.
