INDIANAPOLIS – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team is No. 3 in the final set of region rankings released Wednesday.
The Silveswords jumped up two spots in the West Region after winning all three matches last week including two against two-time defending Pacific West Conference champion Azusa Pacific. They leaped past Simon Fraser and Cal State Los Angeles, both of whom was ahead of Chaminade in last week's rankings.
Cal State San Bernardino is the West's top team while Western Washington is No. 2.
The Silverswords (26-5 overall, 16-3 PacWest) can win a share of their first conference championship since 1996 with a win Friday at Hawai'i Hilo. They can also clinch with a Biola loss to either Azusa Pacific in Azusa, Calif., on Thursday or to Point Loma on Saturday afternoon.
Chaminade can win the title outright and earn the PacWest's automatic spot in the West Regional if both scenarios occur. Biola (19-7, 15-3 PacWest) controls its own destiny for the conference's automatic qualifier due to its head-to-head season series win against CUH. The Eagles win the AQ if they win both matches this week.
The announcement of the 64-team Division II field will be announced Monday at 2:30 p.m. Hawai'i time on NCAA.com.
