Anna Dalla Vecchia (Vicenza, Italy/University of San Francisco/IIS S.B. Boscardin HS) has been named the Pacific West Conference Defender of the Week.
The senior was a digging machine for the Silverswords last week. Against Fresno Pacific on Wednesday, she set a school record for three-set matches by coming up with 34 digs, the second-highest total in PacWest history for three setters. She followed that performance with a 25-dig match Saturday against Academy of Art and averaged 8.43 digs during the week.
Dalla Vecchia set the single-season school record in digs with 549 and is the first Silversword in school history to reach 500 for a single year. Her current average of 5.13 digs is on pace to shatter the single-season school record of 4.85 set in 2002 by Kalae Araujo.
This is her second conference defender of the week award, also earning it back on Sept. 6.
The Silverswords (23-5 overall, 13-3 PacWest), tied for second in the conference, open their final regular season home stretch starting tonight with a crucial two-match set against Azusa Pacific at McCabe Gym. The Cougars are leading the PacWest with an 11-1 record, two losses ahead of the Silverswords. The two teams meet again on Wednesday.
All fans attending tonight's and Wednesday's matches must provide proof of vaccination, wear masks in McCabe at all times except when drinking water which will be the only food/beverage allowed. Fans also need to fill out a contact tracing form before arriving at McCabe. Tonight's form can be accessed by clicking
