Villa Named Hawai‘i Pod Player of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University guard Jessiya Villa (Martinsburg, W. Va./Hawai'i/Kahuku HS, Hawai'i) has been named the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Hawai'i Pod Player of the Week for games played between Feb. 8 and 14.

The 6-foot redshirt freshman was stellar in helping the Silverswords win two of three games from in-city rival Hawai'i Pacific University last week. Villa totaled 53 points, 17 assists and nine rebounds, averages of 17.7 points, 5.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds against the Sharks. He also shot 57.6 percent (19-of-33) from the floor, making 7-of-16 from 3-point range.

The University of Hawai'i transfer set season-highs with 19 points and seven assists with three triples in the 'Swords' 113-80 win on Friday. It was the most points in a regulation game by Chaminade against HPU since the two schools began facing each other in intercollegiate basketball in 1976.

Villa ranks 11th in the PacWest in scoring (15.8 ppg), fourth in assists (4.4 apg) and fifth in both shooting percentage (52.7) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0).

The Silverswords and Sharks will meet for the fourth consecutive time on Wednesday at The Shark Tank in Manoa Valley, a makeup from the Jan. 24 date that was postponed. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
