KANEOHE, O'ahu, Hawai'i – Members of the Chaminade University men's and women's cross country teams finally got to compete Saturday, a little over 15 months after last being in action.
Five Silverswords competed in the Hawai'i Pacific University Invitational, a 5-kilometer race through the hills that make up the former HPU Hawai'i Loa campus in windward O'ahu. Due to opt-outs, CUH runners are competing as individuals this spring with no team scores this year.
On the men's side, freshman
Owen Daugherty (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) finished the 5-k fifth in 19 minutes, 23.9 seconds. Senior
Elijah Bernardo-Flores (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) posted a time of 20:35.7 in ninth place followed by freshman
Conor McMahon (Pacifica, Calif./Archbishop Rioardan) at 11th.
In the women's 5-k race, senior
Olivia Mariucci (Templeton, Calif./Templeton) enjoyed an eighth-place overall finish at 24:07.4 while fellow senior
Riley Hallman (Renner, S.D./Tri-Valley) at 27:27.5 in 14th. Hawai'i Hilo topped HPU by a 22 to 35 count.
The 'Swords are next in action on Friday, Feb. 12 in the UH Hilo Invitational at the Naniloa Golf Course in Hilo.
