ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's golf team on Monday shot a 333 in the opening round of the Pioneer Shootout at the par-72, 6,772-yard Corica Park South Course.
The Silverswords are in eighth place, 21 shots behind seventh-place Dominican University of California. Sonoma State shot even-par 288 as the first round leaders of the Shootout which is being hosted this year by Pacific West Conference member Holy Names in place of Cal State East Bay who has been the annual host of the event.
Individually, all four scoring 'Swords are within six shots of each other, led by
Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) carded a first-round 81.
Jackson Tyler (La Plata, Md./Wesley College/Montverde Academy, Fla.) is just one shot behind Peterson, followed by
Desmond Mello (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i/Moanalua HS) with an 83 and
Colby Gunderson (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) at 87.
Kalani Frazier (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kapolei) had a non-counting score of 94.
Sonoma State's Devin Gregg is the first round leader at 3-under-par.
The 'Swords wrap the Shootout on Tuesday with the 18-hole finale.
