ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's golf team ended a 12-day Northern California road trip Tuesday by shooting a 335 in the second and final round of the Pioneer Shootout at the par-72, 6,772-yard Corica South Park Golf Course.
The Silverswords finished with a two-day total of 668, coming in eighth place behind fellow Pacific West Conference schools Dominican University of California (seventh) and Holy Names (sixth), the latter of which served as tournament host.
Like he did after Monday's opening round,
Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) ended the 36-hole tournament as the team's top scorer with a 163 after shooting 82 in the final 18.
The 'Swords' low score of the day came from
Colby Gunderson (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawaiì/Castle). The senior birdied three of the final four holes on the front-nine to card an 80 in Round 2, a seven-shot improvement from the first round. Gunderson finished at 167, a shot behind
Desmond Mello (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i/Moanalua HS) who followed up his first-round 83 with a matching score in the final round.
Jackson Tyler (La Plata, Md./Wesley College/Montverde Academy, Fla.) finished with a two-day total of 172 followed by
Kalani Frazier (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kapolei) who had a 187.
Sonoma State won the team title with a 581 while Collin Bordeaux of Regis University in Colorado was the individual medalist with a 4-under-par 140.
The Silverswords return home and will finish their season in Hawai'i. They will compete in the Hawai'i Challenge with fellow 808 schools, Hawai'i Hilo and Hawai'i Pacific, on April 3 and 4 at the Waikoloa Beach Course, a preview of the same venue where the PacWest Golf Championships will take place in late April.
