LIVERMORE, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's golf team wrapped up their first mainland trip of the season Tuesday with a 14th-place finish at the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks Invitational at the par-72, 6,958-yard Poppy Ridge Golf Course.
The Silverswords shot a final-round 341 to finish with a two-day total of 669, just two shots behind Northwest Nazarene "B".
Desmond Mello (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i/Moanalua HS) finished as the 'Swords' low scorer with a 164 overall, although
Kalani Frazier (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kapolei) had the team's low score in Round 2 with an 83, finishing the 36-hole event with a 170 total.
With a second-round 87,
Colby Gunderson (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) finished four shots behind Mello with a 168.
Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) shot 90 on Tuesday to finish with a total of 171, followed by
Jackson Tyler (La Plata, Md./Wesley College/Montverde Academy, Fla.) with a 173.
Western Washington took the team title by winning a tiebreaker with Sonoma State. The individual winner was Julius Kreutzer from Academy of Art who finished at 3-under-par 146, winning by one shot.
The Silverswords will remain on the mainland to compete in the Pioneer Shootout, hosted by Cal State East Bay, starting Monday at the Corica Park South Course in Alameda, Calif.
