AIEA, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University men's golf team Saturday opened their final tune-up to the Pacific West Conference Championships by competing with fellow local Division II schools Hawai'i Pacific University and the University of Hawai'i Hilo in the Hawai'i Triangular at the par-72 Pearl Country Club.
Three Silverswords shot in the field's top 10 to help them card an opening-round 305, putting them in second behind the Sharks (290) and three shots ahead of the Vulcans (308).
Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) fired a career-low even-par 72, putting him in a tie for third place overall, just two shots off leader Hasee Nazir of HPU.
Colby Gunderson (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) is tied for seventh after carding a first-round three-over-par 75 while
Jeren Nishimoto (Honolulu/Kaiser) is tied for 10th at 77.
Desmond Mello (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i/Moanalua HS) shot an 81 while
Kalani Frazier (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kapolei) had an opening round 85.
Gavin Bedoya (Honolulu/Kaiser) rounds out the 'Swords' contingent at 86.
The Hawai'i Triangular wraps up Sunday with the final 18-hole second round at Pearl CC.
