IRVINE, Calif. – A total of 90 student-athletes from Chaminade University were named Wednesday to the Academic All-Pacific West Conference Teams.
All six large-rostered sports (11 or more participants) had over 60 percent of their active rosters named academic all-conference while three of the four small-rostered sports (10 or less) had all of its active and eligible student-athletes recognized.
Softball had all 15 of its student-athletes on its roster qualify, becoming the first large-rostered sport in Chaminade athletics history to have perfect representation on the Academic All-PacWest list, and the second to have all active members of its roster named (women's basketball had 10 active members with one inactive non-qualifier in 2020). Women's soccer had 17 of 18 active student-athletes named followed by men's basketball (10-of-12), women's volleyball (11-of-15) and men's soccer (15-of-20).
Women's tennis (6-of-6), men's cross country (3-of-3) and women's country (2-of-2) had all active participants named all-conference.
Five Silverswords (
Caili Cain and
Hoku Schatz, women's soccer;
Haley Hayakawa and
Keaolani Takemura, softball; and
Sawyer Storms, men's basketball) achieved perfect 4.00 grade-point averages during the 2020-21 academic term.
(Note: The list does not include 17 GPA- and semester-eligible student-athletes who opted out of competition during this past academic year.)
To qualify for Academic All-PacWest, student-athletes must have completed at least two semesters at their current institution, maintain a minimum career GPA of 3.00 and have participated in at least one regular season game or competition during the 2020-21 academic calendar. Chaminade participates in 10 of the conference's 15 sponsored sports.
