Women’s Soccer’s Takata Named PacWest Defender of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University goalkeeper Naomi Takata (Honolulu/Pearl City) on Monday was named the Pacific West Conference women's soccer Defender of the Week for competition between Oct. 17 and 23.

The junior posted a pair of clean sheets against Fresno Pacific and Azusa Pacific which helped the Silverswords maintain a second place footing in the conference standings, the highest the program has ever been this late in the season.

Takata has allowed just one goal in Chaminade's last six games, totaling 540 minutes. Making the feat even more impressive is the lone goal came on a penalty kick against Holy Names back on Oct. 13. The last goal she has allowed on a running clock game came on Sept. 23 at nationally ranked Hawai'i Hilo, a span of 552:23 minutes entering Monday's contest at Biola.

Takata's shutout against Fresno Pacific last Tuesday was her fifth, breaking the program record she had previously set in 2019 and last season. Saturday's clean sheet at Azusa Pacific extended her new single season record to six. She is already the school's all-time leader in wins (18) and shutouts (14).

UH Hilo's Teani Arakawa was the PacWest Player of the Week while the Vulcans also earned the Team of the Week honor.
