Volleyball to Face Top Seed Seawolves in NCAA West Opener

INDIANAPOLIS – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team, the Pacific West Conference champion, will open the NCAA Division II West Regional against No. 1-seeded Alaska Anchorage at Carver Gymnasium at the Western Washington University campus.
 
The Silverswords are the No. 8 seed in the regional which opens Thursday and will play in the second match of the day at 12:30 p.m. Hawai'i time (2:30 p.m. local).
 
It is a rematch of the Aug. 20 meeting in Honolulu, where the Seawolves swept the 'Swords in straight sets (25-15, 25-20, 25-22) during the Hawai'i-Alaska Challenge.
 
The all-time series between the two programs is tied at 14 each with each team winning three of the past six meetings.
 
It is the fifth all-time NCAA postseason appearance for Chaminade. Head coach Kahala Kabalis Hoke, who became the program's all-time winningest coach on Nov. 9 and currently has 182 wins, has been involved in all five of the program's appearances as a player (2002, 2004) and head coach (2018, 2021, 2022).
 
The winner will face the victor of fourth-seeded Cal Poly Pomona and fifth-seeded Cal State San Bernardino on Friday at 3 p.m. Hawai'i time. The championship match will be Saturday with the winner advancing to the NCAA Championships in nearby Seattle on Dec. 1.
