HONOLULU – Chaminade University Athletics announced Thursday that women's volleyball head coach
Kahala Kabalis Hoke has signed a five-year contract extension that carries through the 2027 season.
"I am thrilled to be able to secure Kahala as our volleyball coach for the next five years," Chaminade Director of Athletics
Dr. Tom Buning said. "She has been a valuable part of Chaminade's success in this premier sport as both player and coach. Her development of our student-athletes is a hallmark of what we strive for in our Silversword athletic program."
"I am so very grateful for the opportunity to continue working with an amazing Chaminade 'ohana and with talented and invested group of student-athletes and coaches who exemplify the championship mindset we've worked so hard to build," Kabalis Hoke said. "I have to give kudos to the 'lau lima,' the many hands that helped us develop this program to where we are striving. We would not be where we are without our former student-athletes, coaches and support staff.
"Lastly, a big mahalo to all our supporters, super fans, donors, parents and friends who have helped our program grow exponentially through the years."
Currently in her 11th season, Kabalis Hoke, a 2005 Chaminade alumnae, has a career record of 167-121 and has guided the Silverswords to two NCAA postseason berths in the last three championship seasons. The team has posted winning records in every championship season since 2015 (excluding the shortened spring 2021 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic). During that six-season span, she has tallied 123 victories, the second-highest total of any current Pacific West Conference coach (Biola's Aaron Seitzer has 151). She is 12 victories away from tying Glennie Adams as the school's all-time leader in wins.
Last year, Kabalis Hoke guided the program to a record 27 wins with the team's first PacWest title in 25 years. The Silverswords were also ranked in the AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll for the first time since 2005.
Financial compensation will be increased with the added responsibility of coaching beach volleyball which begins competition in spring 2024. She also has added bonus clauses for winning conference titles and honors such as coach of the year within the conference and regionally.
