Obara Named PacWest Softball Preseason

IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University second baseman Cheyne Obara (Pearl City, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City) on Monday was named to the All-Pacific West Conference Preseason Team as selected by the conference coaches.
 
Obara was a second team All-PacWest selection in 2022 after leading the Silverswords with 12 RBI and nine sacrifice hits en-route to a 16-win season, the team's most since 2013. The senior, who is using her season-of-competition waiver for a fifth year, had a .971 fielding percentage last season and turned 15 of the team's 25 double plays which helped the 'Swords finish third nationally in double plays per game at 0.61.PWC SB 2023 Preseaon Poll
 
Obara was the PacWest Defensive Player of the Year in 2021.
 
Concordia University Irvine outfielder Megan Massa was voted as the PacWest Preseason Player of the Year while the Eagles' Kaitlin Entrup was the Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
 
The PacWest also on Monday released the preseason poll with CUI earning the top spot with 81 points. Azusa Pacific was picked second with 69 points followed by Biola at third with 63 and Hawai'i Pacific at fourth with 47. The top four teams will earn a berth into the PacWest Tournament which will be played for the first time this season from March 3-5 at Biola.
 
Chaminade opens the season on Sunday, Feb. 19 when they host Saint Martin's University at their new home park, Silversword Field at Sand Island Park. Former Silversword Amber Manuel is an assistant coach with the Saints.
