IRVINE, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's soccer team on Tuesday was named the Pacific West Conference Women's Soccer Team of the Week.
The Silverswords went 1-0-1 during the week, ending on Monday, Oct. 16. The 'Swords forged a 1-1 draw against a Hawai'i Pacific University squad that opened PacWest action with a win and two ties.
Then on Monday, Chaminade achieved what might be its biggest win of 2023, a 2-1 triumph over perennial conference power Point Loma. The Sea Lions, who won back-to-back PacWest titles in 2018 and 2019, have never finished lower than second in each of the last four championship seasons.
The Silverswords are 6-2-3 with a 4-0-1 mark in the conference. They are second in the PacWest with 13 points, just two behind conference-leading Hawai'i Hilo.
Haley Mo'okini (San Gabriel, Calif./Gabrielino), who scored and assisted on both CUH goals on Monday, is tied for fifth in the conference with five goals. Goalkeeper
Naomi Takata (Honolulu/Pearl City) is third in the conference in goals-against average at .727.
Chaminade has two more big conference home matches this week, facing Biola on Thursday, then PacWest newcomer, Westmont College, on Saturday. The Warriors are 2-0-1 in the PacWest and, prior to making the move to NCAA Division II this year, was an NAIA powerhouse.
